Hiking in Bavaria: Visiting the tenant of the Taubensteinhaus – journey

Neither cappuccino nor WiFi, but a lot of charm: The Taubensteinhaus above the Spitzingsee has reopened – and a new tenant who is changing things here.

The full moon stands like a lantern behind the Taubensteinhaus. In the pale light, ski tourers draw their tracks in the snow. Winter finally came late in the Spitzingsee area in the Schliersee mountains. There was hardly any snow here until mid-February: dirty-brown meadow slopes instead of a winter wonderland. “The early days were difficult,” says hut landlady Claudia Essendorfer. “Only since the snow has fallen have many people climbed up here again.”
