Hiking in autumn in South Tyrol: To the larches on Salten – trip

Above Jenesien, walking along an almost flat path, you pass a shrine to the Virgin Mary that was cut into the trunk of a larch tree. Through a gate you reach the Kofler-Salten, a small alpine pasture where a log cabin stands between scattered reddish-yellow larches. Surrounded by listeners, a dark-haired woman is crouching in front of the trunk of an old larch tree, with a wooden bucket placed on the ground next to her. She inserts a U-shaped metal tube into a hole in the trunk of the tree and then pulls it out again after a short time filled with resin. Elisabeth Unterhofer shows the audience how she wins larch pitch.
