King Charles not only appeared as a monarch for the first time at the Highland Games. His outfit also made the performance unique.

Charles attended the event in the Scottish town of Braemar for the first time since his coronation in May, which takes place on the first Saturday in September every year. The monarch, who is the patron of the event, now wore a special kilt – with a new tartan pattern named after the king, British media reported.
Visiting the Royals is a tradition
It is a tradition for high-ranking royals to visit the Scottish Highland Games. Before her death, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) was a regular at the event, which features competitions such as log throwing, during her summer stay at the nearby Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire.
Peter Fraser, President of the Braemar Royal Highland Society, told the BBC of this year’s Event: “A new king, that’s very special. It’s great that the royal family has continued this tradition. The entire royal family has a great interest in the games, there’s no doubt about that.”
King Charles traveled to Balmoral in August. It is the first summer for the royals in Scotland since the death of Queen Elizabeth a year ago. According to British media reports, her successor is also expected to be there on the first anniversary of the Queen’s death, September 8th. Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle aged 96.
Charles and Camilla travel to France
A trip abroad is still planned for Charles and Camilla in September: The two will travel to France at the end of the month. The palace announced this on its website and in an Instagram post. “Their Majesties will visit Paris and Bordeaux from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd September celebrating the shared history, culture and values of the UK and France,” read the post.
