Despite the Ukraine war and the energy crisis – many DAX companies are making high profits this year. According to one forecast, they will pay out more money to their shareholders than ever before.

The money will only come into the account next year, but many shareholders can already be happy about it: According to a forecast by the “Handelsblatt”, the DAX companies will pay out record dividends to their shareholders next spring. We are talking about 54 billion euros; that is another six percent more than this year.

Up to eight percent more expected for auto shares

This is possible because most of the DAX companies are still doing well – despite the many crises. The big three automakers, VW, BMW and Mercedes, are likely to see payouts increase the most. The “Handelsblatt” calculates that shareholders can expect increases of up to eight percent each. However, compared to their profits, the car manufacturers also give relatively little to the shareholders, around thirty percent. There are more from other companies.

The dividends at Adidas and Covestro could be lower. And Siemens Energy does not want to make any distribution next year due to depreciation and losses. It is astonishing, however, that energy-intensive companies such as BASF are apparently prepared to pay generous dividends according to the “Handelsblatt” forecast.

long-term trend

There is little sign of abstinence among DAX companies, at least when it comes to dividends. In fact, their payouts have risen steadily over the past seven years – with the exception of the two Corona years 2020 and 2021, in which the dividends were reduced by ten percent compared to 2019. After that it went uphill again.

However, the joy about the distributions among German shareholders could be limited. Because more than half of the DAX shareholders live abroad. For example, the largest investor in Mercedes is a Chinese company. This means that most of the dividends go to other countries.
