A major fire broke out in a wallpaper factory in Hesse. There are first reports of injuries, but the situation is still confusing.

A fire broke out on Thursday evening on the area of a wallpaper factory in Kirchhain, Hesse (Marburg-Biedenkopf district).

For reasons as yet unknown, there was apparently a major fire in the locksmith’s shop after a loud bang, the police said. There are initial reports of injuries, but no statements can yet be made about the number and extent of injuries.

A police spokesman said the police and fire brigade are on site with a strong contingent to bring the fire under control and care for possible injuries. The scene of the fire was cordoned off over a large area.

Because of the heavy smoke development, the police asked the people in Kirchhain to keep their doors and windows closed – and not to come to the scene of the fire, so as not to endanger the extinguishing and rescue work and themselves. Loudspeaker announcements were also used to warn the population. Fire and smoke are visible from afar.
