The affair did not last long, but it surprised more than one person. For the first time in a long time, a national team involved in a tournament asked a foreign federation to lend it its coach. Qualified for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations (they will face Senegal), Côte d’Ivoire asked the FFF for a loan from Les Bleues coach, Hervé Renard.
Unfortunately for the Elephants, the French federation ultimately refused to release its coach. And the latter did not hide his frustration. “The negotiations did not result favorably, it is because it should not happen. I would have loved it, but fate chose otherwise”he told Canal+. Visibly excited by the Ivorian proposal, Renard will have to follow the end of CAN 2023 in front of his television. It now remains to be seen how Les Bleues will take this mini saga.
