Hertz and Tesla: Musk tweet irritates again

The car rental company Hertz orders tens of thousands of Tesla – this news caused a sensation last week. But now the mood is cooling down – and a well-known person is to blame for it.

Just over a week ago, Tesla had cracked the magical mark of a trillion dollar market value on the stock exchange. The reason at the time was the news that there was a large order from the car rental company Hertz. 100,000 Tesla automobiles have been ordered by the end of 2022, and 50,000 Hertz Teslas are also to be rented out to drivers at Uber. The largest single order so far for the electric car company.

Doubt via Twitter – again

But now Tesla boss Elon Musk is causing confusion with a tweet: Accordingly, the deal with Hertz has not yet been signed. Tesla has a far greater demand than production, Musk wrote. He added that cars would only be sold to Hertz with the same margin as private customers. With this, Musk is alluding to the fact that high discounts are often granted on bulk orders.

After the Musks tweet, Hertz emphasized that they stand by the announcement. Opposite the press it was said that the deliveries of Tesla had already started. Hertz is already advertising the deal in the US, including with football star Tom Brady.

It’s not the first time that Musk has caused irritation or a fall in prices with a tweet. Musk had already had to pay a fine for tweeting content that could affect the stock market price.

Important business for Hertz

The deal is extremely significant for Hertz, as the car rental company had only come out of bankruptcy in the summer. The corona pandemic has also hit car rental companies hard overall. With the borders that are now opening, one is hoping for an upswing. Vaccinated European tourists should be able to travel to the USA on November 8th. Hertz also wants to offer Teslas in Europe – in selected European cities.
