Hertha BSC: License decision made! | Sports

All Hertha fans have been looking forward to this decision!

Now it is clear: Hertha BSC has the license for the 2nd league. From now on, the relegated Berliners can safely plan for the coming season.

The club has thus averted the total crash. As the German Football League (DFL) announced on Monday, all 36 clubs in the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga were allowed to play – including the Berliners not mentioned by name in the notification.

Breathe easy at Hertha!

Otherwise the club would have been threatened with falling into the regional league. According to the Berliners, they had submitted the required documents on time last Wednesday.

Hertha Managing Director Thomas E. Herrich (59): “Our process of economic consolidation, restructuring and reorganization started months ago and is still in full swing. This also applies to the sporting plans for the upcoming season. The granting of the license by the DFL gives us planning security.”

And further: “We will continue to work intensively on getting economically healthy and at the same time putting together a squad that is competitive.”

At Hertha, which was badly hit financially, there was a gap in coverage of around 60 million euros. Hertha wants to achieve a large part of the sum by postponing the repayment of the 40 million euro bond, which is actually due in November. Creditors were asked to agree to an extension at lower interest rates by June 19.

It is assumed that the Berliners had to provide the DFL with further security in advance for the amount of the bond – for example in the form of a bank guarantee.
