here is the future electric Twingo at a low price, less than €20,000

This concept announces the replacement for the electric Twingo, which will be launched in 2026. It promises a very attractive price/range ratio.

Luca de Meo has a sense of spectacle. We remember that when he presented his battle plan to relaunch Renault, in January 2021, the group’s general director made an impression with the concept announcing the return of the R5. A communications strategy that he renewed on November 15. During a conference marking the birth of Ampere, he showed the project for a new low-cost electric car.

A few hours before the veil was lifted, the brand had made the project official using the code name “Legend”. But the prototype is called Twingo. Luca de Meo thus confirms his taste for the names which have marked the history of Renault, even if it means affixing them to vehicles whose concept has evolved. The Scénic and Espace have thus become SUVs.

Here, however, there is a logical link with the Twingo dynasty. This concept announces a new small city car, which will thus be placed at the entry level. Above all, in terms of style, the new car is downright a neo-retro version of the first Twingo!

The newcomer thus resumes her frog-like gaze. Even typical design elements are reinterpreted, such as the air intake on the hood or the round door handle. Notable difference compared to the original Twingo: there are five doors, like the latest one, which brings versatility to use.

With this model, Renault will continue its strategy of making electric cars accessible to everyone. While the highly anticipated R5 will have a base price around €25,000, the future electric Twingo will start under €20,000. And this without taking into account the bonus.

How prices of electric cars will finally fall at Renault

However, when the production car is launched, in 2026, it will not be so unprecedented, since Citroën has already planned to offer a version of its electric C3 in 2025 at €19,990. Until then, we hope that Renault will go lower, especially since we do not forget that when it was released, in spring 2021, the Dacia Spring cost €16,990 excluding bonuses! Its price, however, has skyrocketed, since it is now at €20,800. The current electric Twingo now costs €25,250 minimum. It was launched at €21,300.

If the future Twingo promises to be more expensive than the Spring at its launch, it is because it will be produced in Europe, while the Spring comes from China. The chosen factory seems to be that of Novo Mesto, Slovenia, where the Twingo is already assembled. This production on the Old Continent will make it possible to avoid possible financial sanctions on vehicles imported outside Europe (customs duties, loss of bonus, etc.). The equipment will also be richer than that of the Dacia, especially since new European regulations will require the installation of new safety equipment.

In addition to the purchase price, Renault also wants to emphasize savings in use. For his future little one, he announces a consumption of only 10 kWh/100 km. Enough to make the vehicle very attractive for covering 100 km compared to a gasoline equivalent. On the other hand, there is no question of having a long autonomy, obviously incompatible with a tight price! And then this model has an urban vocation. Renault already knows that customers of these small models do not need a lot of autonomy. The customer of a Spring, for example, travels an average of 30 km per day.
