Maryse Joissains, the former mayor of Aix-en-Provence, sentenced on appeal to an eight-month suspended prison sentence and three years of ineligibility for illegal taking of interests and embezzlement of public funds, has seen her appeal in cassation be rejected according to information from
Provence, confirmed by 20 minutes. At the beginning of September, shortly before this judgment, she had resigned from her post as mayor for health reasons.

At 79, the one who remained mayor for twenty years, is therefore definitively condemned. This decision marks the end of a rebounding judicial soap opera started in 2014. It was his daughter, Sophie, who took over as head of the city after her election by the city council.
