Henna seizures? A young girl and her epilepsy

A girl keeps having seizures. What does all this have to do with an artistic custom?

Recorded by Astrid Viciano

At first glance, the girl didn’t look anything special when she came to our clinic with her parents for an appointment. The petite patient was nine years old, bright but a little shy. Father and mother came from India. They told me that the daughter had been suffering from epileptic seizures for three years. The first time, she initially passed out when henna paste was applied to her hands and arms. It is obtained from the dried leaves of the henna bush, which are ground into a powder and then used in the form of a paste for stylishly decorative body painting. This art is called “Mehndi” in India.
