This job is backbreaking work: sorting luggage on the apron at Nuremberg Airport. To make this work easier for employees, the airport will be using so-called exoskeletons in the future. These devices, which are worn on the upper body, help employees lift heavy luggage from the plane or from treadmills.
First and foremost, the exoskeletons are intended to prevent health problems among employees, said airport spokesman Jan Beinßen. On the other hand, it is about making their work easier for employees. This is particularly advantageous for employees who are no longer very fit.
The 50 employees in luggage sorting at Nuremberg Airport currently have access to four exoskeletons, and further devices are planned. The costs for the technical helpers therefore amount to a six-figure amount.
