Help, it’s snowing! So what? Why people can cope with adverse weather – Bavaria

You have to be happy that you got through the past weekend in one piece, given the dangers to life and limb from the “winter roller”, which is loud Picture “buried” the south under itself. Luckily, the whole of Bavaria was constantly warned on all channels: Watch out, snow! Black ice! Roof avalanches! Cold as hell! End of the world! The train immediately stopped operating in Oberland out of shock, which many people didn’t even notice because it only runs sporadically even in good weather. Bavaria’s Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber issued a severe weather warning from her garden on Saturday: “Please take care of yourselves. It’s best to stay at home with these masses of snow and definitely avoid the forests.”

Unfortunately, the semi-official advice of the security expert from Bayerisch Gmain could not be followed. The trip to the Tölz Christmas market seemed too tempting. Contrary to expectations, it went absolutely smoothly. This may have been because the vast majority of drivers aren’t completely stupid and simply drive slowly in winter.

Hundreds gathered at the Christmas market on Tölzer Marktstrasse. Some of them threw snowballs and laughed while doing it, although such a snowball can be a dangerous weapon in the hands of a skilled thrower. At the mulled wine stalls there were crowds of Christmas-happy people raving to each other that this was probably the best snow day in ages. They completely ignored the risk of slipping. And no one wore a helmet, even though such a helmet can be useful in many situations and should long ago be mandatory for pedestrians. On Sunday the irresponsible activity continued until after dark.

The results after the winter rolling weekend: The number of reports of danger exceeded the number of accidents by a factor of 100. It’s just winter. And it seems that people can cope with adverse conditions to some extent. It’s a shame, otherwise we could have added the SZ winter tip: Dress warmly when it’s cold! Make sure you wear good shoes! Don’t forget to drink when you’re exerting yourself! And always be on your guard, because… Picture already announces the next days of disaster: “After the winter rollercoaster: weather expert with a horror outlook.”
