Helmut Markwort’s goal is to become senior president for a second time and to open the first plenary session of the new state parliament. And of course, to help his party, the FDP, get back into parliament, the man is campaigning again at the age of 86. He was most recently the oldest member of parliament in Germany and would be the oldest president by age, as was the case in 2018, when he opened the legislative period at the age of 81. He said that his speech was a little too long, it lasted 29 minutes, and he will keep it shorter next time.
