Helmut Fritz, Tal, Christine and the queens… These artists who changed their artistic identity

Recently, the artist Christine and the queens, changed her name. Several times… After having shortened his stage name to Chris, the performer of the hits St. Claude And Christina came out trans on Instagram in 2022. The singer announced that he is gendered and uses the pronoun “he”.

He also took the opportunity to announce his new stage name, Red Car, in connection with a personal drama he experienced, the death of his mother. Following this tragic event, he often saw red cars, which he interpreted as a sign from his mother.

New album, old nickname

While an album under this new identity was released in November 2022, Red Car seems to have already disappeared. The French singer-songwriter is preparing to release a new album entitled Paranoia, Angels, True Loveon June 9, under her first pseudonym: Christine and the queens. To Be Honestthe first single of this new opus to be released was released on March 8th.

Also known for his talents as a dancer, Chris will be back on stage in France and Europe at the end of the year during his new tour, to introduce this new record to his audience.

If Chris seems to have found himself, each life course is different and does not happen the same way for all artists….

A homecoming for some

You sang out loud It annoys me during your evenings with friends in 2009 and you were looking for The meaning of life in 2012 ? You wonder what their interpreters have become? Tal and Helmut Fritz no longer exist under this name.

Franco-Israeli singer Tal was discovered by the general public in 2012 with her first single The meaning of lifeif the success is immediate, the albums and the tours follow one another for several years, this is no longer the case in 2018. His fourth album is struggling to meet his audience.

The artist is discreet for several months and in 2021, returns to social networks under a new artistic identity: Taloula. When she returned to Instagram, the young woman explained this change to her audience during a live broadcast: Taloula is the nickname she was given when she was young. The artist has also made a return to his first love with writing songs in English, French not being his mother tongue.

At the time of confinement in 2020, she had already confided in this more complicated passage of her career, evoking having “forced” herself to sing in French and denouncing the actions of her former producer, calling her “very great manipulator”

Today, everything seems to be going well for Taloula, now based in London as an independent artist. Several singles have been released as well as an EP in June 2022, entitled The Evolution Of Taloulawhich she partly co-produced.

The success is no longer the same, but Tal Benyezri, his real name, has found his way and “the pleasure of singing” his songs.

A not always obvious comeback

The singer Helmut Fritz, this eccentric character with the air of a German dandy, followed another path. The caricature of the famous fashion designer Karl Lagarfeld, created from scratch by his interpreter, Eric Greff, was a resounding success ten years ago.

It annoys me is a real hit of the 2010s. The success was dazzling and unexpected. The clip has counted more than 40 million views on YouTube and led the artist to travel across Europe, Canada and Russia to perform more than 150 concerts. A success that “exceeded” Eric Greff, who fell “into the excesses and faults of alcohol” as he confided in 2022 on the set of It starts today.

At the end of 2015, he returned under the name of Géronimo with the song Possessed which was one of the hits that year. A more pop title, which corresponds to him and is in line with his Anglo-Saxon influences. A style in which he has always wanted to succeed. But the success was short-lived because, as he tells in his book Rock star otherwise nothing, he initially hid his identity, not wanting any amalgamation with Helmut Fritz “but when the radios found out, I didn’t have the support behind to propose other things on Géronimo. »

The singer is making a new change in 2022. A new project is launched under a new artistic identity, Rémo, with a first single Crazy about splinters. This stage name is the first name of his maternal grandfather and a project based on poetry and a 2-year long writing process.

Singer and now writer, Eric Greff hopes to settle permanently, even on a small scale, under the name of Rémo
