Helga Schubert in the Munich Literature House – Munich

She was once a psychologist, he was a psychology professor, 13 years her senior. He later became a painter, she a great German writer and Bachmann Prize winner. Now Helga Schubert has been taking care of her seriously ill husband for 15 years. And she still writes, mostly at night. “Today. A Book of Love” is the name of her new collection of stories, in which she tells of the great task of a woman, caring for her demented husband – of the small moments of suffering and affection, both tenderly and relentlessly. The book is about living in the now, preparing for the end and the price of a long love.

On Wednesday, July 19, Helga Schubert will be a guest at the Munich Literature House and will read from her book. The evening will be moderated by Felix Stephan, editor in the features section of the SZ.
