Hélène Darroze’s Jòia Bun restaurant is already closing its doors

Say goodbye to Hélène Darroze’s homemade burgers: the Jòia Bun, opened seven months ago on rue de la Michodière (Paris 2nd), is bowing out. The sesame seed bun burgers, the Angus beef patties seasoned with the “Joia” spice blend, as well as the homemade ketchup, were served for the last time last Sunday, before the restaurant closed for good.

Too much competition for high-end burgers in the capital or the star chef’s weariness with street food? Probably a bit of both.

A sudden closure

Voted best female chef in the world in 2015, Hélène Darroze announced the bad news on her Instagram account on Friday October 13. “Thank you for following us since the opening of Jòia Bun, it has been a magnificent human adventure. Thank you for your smiles, your support and your encouragement. We had a blast with you, she wrote. Today, we have decided to refocus on other important projects, but we will see you soon on rue de la Michodière for equally exciting adventures. We will keep you informed of the expected reopening date. »

A statement which at least suggests a possible future for this address, with a concept certainly different from the high-quality South-West burgers that the chef offered until then.

An audience never won over

Priced between 15 and 25 euros, the seven burgers from Jòia Bun that the chef of Landes origin served “like at home” join chef Michel Sarran’s Croq’Michel, which closed its doors after three years. And despite this closure, Hélène Darroze remains at the head of two quality establishments in Paris, including the Jòia bistro still open at 39 rue des Jeûneurs, Paris 2nd.
