Helen Mirren and her husband Taylor Hackford have linked an appeal to reveal what their (step)son Rio died of.

Hollywood star Helen Mirren (76) and husband Taylor Hackford (77) have in a joint “People” statement informed of the deaths of Hackford’s son and Mirren’s stepson Rio. The “The Mandalorian” actor and club owner passed away last Thursday at the age of 51. Now the couple announced that he had died as a result of “a uveal melanoma, a very aggressive and rare form of cancer”.

Together with her husband, the actress appealed because of the tragedy: “We ask everyone who reads this to have their eyes tested at least once a year. That could save a loved one from this type of cancer.”

Rio “inspired” her

Rio’s work deeply “inspired” both of them, and his loss “broke their hearts,” it said. “His life has shown us how to live with generosity and togetherness. He has shared his life journey with so many people who are now mourning him. And at the same time, they are celebrating their good fortune to have known him.”

In “The Mandalorian” he was the actor of the droid IG-11, voiced by Taika Waititi (46). He also recently played a manager in the series “Pam & Tommy”. Hackford also had small appearances in films like “Pretty Woman” or “Strange Days”.
