Held in check in Le Havre, Monaco lets PSG slip to the top of Ligue 1

Monaco is marking time. For the second time in three matches, ASM failed to win this Saturday evening in Le Havre (0-0). The Normans even almost won but they missed a penalty in added time. Beaten in Lille (0-2) then happy winners of Brest (2-0), last weekend, Adi Hütter’s players let PSG slip to the top of Ligue 1, while the two teams will face just after the international break. Authors of their third 0-0 in four matches, the Normans are provisionally sixth in the Championship.

The match: 0-0

Faced with well-organized Le Havre, Monaco had a hard time finding space and put themselves in danger as soon as they made a mistake behind. Maripan quickly had the ball stolen by Joujou and at the end of the action, Nego’s shot found Kohn on his path (6th). Then Magassa completely missed a side pass, intercepted by Joujou. But the winger did not make the right choice behind (13th). We had to wait half an hour to see the Principality players create danger. Jakobs came up against Desmas (28th), who then achieved a feat on a point-blank recovery from Zakaria (31st), following a strong cross from Diatta, who was released at half-time due to injury.

The Normans became emboldened and then created the best opportunities. Maripan saved in front of Alioui (41st), who lost a duel with Köhn by trying in vain to lob him with a dive (53rd). Alioui, again, also saw Maripan deprive him of a shot at the penalty spot thanks to a masterful tackle (56th). Monaco only had one shot on target after the break (Balogun, 90th + 4) and its best opportunity was a shot from Zakaria right next to it (47th). We were heading towards a 0-0 when Diop committed a foul on Sabbi in the area. The VAR intervened and the HAC obtained a penalty, which Grandsir failed to transform (see elsewhere).

The player: Köhn, the savior

It is the attack that has carried ASM since the start of the season but it was its goalkeeper, this Saturday, who allowed it to scratch a point. Already vigilant on a strike from Nego (6th), the Swiss won his duel with Alioui, who had tried to lob him with a subtle dive (53rd). Above all, the former Salzburg player played the saviors in added time, while Diop had just conceded a penalty. Köhn stopped and even captured Grandsir’s attempt and allowed his team to avoid a second defeat in a row on the road.

0.08

Monaco’s expected goals in the second half. The Principality players only shot three times after the break.
