Heiner Lauterbach boycotts the Winter Games in Beijing. On Instagram he directs clear words to the sports associations IOC and FIFA.

The world continues to view the Beijing Winter Olympics critically. In addition to numerous athletes, some celebrities are now taking a position on the host country, which is controversial because of the human rights situation, including Heiner Lauterbach (68). The actor finds clear words on Instagram: “As a self-confessed sports lover and admirer of top athletes, it’s really difficult for me, but I won’t be watching the Winter Olympics in Beijing or the World Cup in Qatar on TV.”

He considers countries “that trample on human rights and abduct, imprison, torture or let millions of people work for them under miserable conditions” as unsuitable venues for the Olympic Games. “Be ashamed of the IOC and FIFA. Be ashamed of your greed for money and your ignorance. And your cold-heartedness,” said Lauterbach. Among other things, he uses the hashtags #human rights and #sports marketing.

Lots of encouragement for Lauterbach

In the comments, Lauterbach found a lot of encouragement for his clear words. “Thank you for your vote. You say what so many people think,” says a follower. Another user writes: “Chapeau for this statement.” Actor colleagues like Armin Rohde (66) and Philipp Danne (36) commented on Lauterbach’s contribution with a thumbs up or an applauding hand emoji.

Due to the human rights situation in China, Beijing, as the venue for the Winter Olympics, has come under massive criticism. For example, the USA, Australia, Canada and Great Britain have announced a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Games. These will be held from February 4th to 20th.
