Heavy rain, hurricanes and storms in Baden-Württemberg – SWR Aktuell

Heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind – the DWD warns of this. According to experts, it could get uncomfortable in Baden-Württemberg at night. There were first harbingers on Tuesday evening.

After a hot start to the week, people in Baden-Württemberg still have to be prepared for high temperatures, but also for thunderstorms that are sometimes stronger, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). On Tuesday evening, showers and thunderstorms created a rather uncomfortable mood.

In the Ulm region, gusts of wind ripped out isolated trees and blew down site fences. The fire brigade therefore moved out to several operations. A police spokesman told SWR that no major damage has been reported so far.

Storms and gusts of wind possible in Baden-Württemberg

According to the DWD, the gusts of wind can reach speeds of between 70 and 80 kilometers per hour on Wednesday night. According to the DWD, the thunderstorms typically occur very locally and usually only hit a few places with full intensity. Where exactly this is to be expected was initially unclear. “But then you shouldn’t stay outdoors,” said a meteorologist from the DWD.

Stronger thunderstorms are to be expected on Thursday evening – here too it is still unclear when and where exactly the thunderstorms will occur. There is said to be a risk of severe weather from hail, heavy rain and hurricane gusts.

Cooling down for the weekend

It was hot on Tuesday during the day, especially on the Upper Rhine, where temperatures rose to up to 33 degrees. It’s supposed to get a little cooler by the weekend. On Monday, the DWD issued a heat warning, especially for the extreme south-west of the country, and warned of very high UV radiation. The DWD issues heat warnings if a high heat load is predicted and it is not certain that the apartment will be able to cool down sufficiently during the cooler night.
