In the evening, an explosion rocks the Russian border town of Belgorod. The governor speaks of four injured and a huge crater. The state news agency Tass reported shortly afterwards that a fighter jet had accidentally shot down ammunition.

According to a media report, a Russian warplane fired on the Russian city of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine. “When a Sukhoi Su-34 aircraft flew over the city of Belgorod, aerial munitions were accidentally shot down,” the Russian state news agency Tass quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying.

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced via Telegram that a heavy explosion shook the Russian border town of Belgorod. A huge crater with a radius of 20 meters has formed at the intersection of one of the main roads,” he wrote. Two women were injured, four cars and four houses damaged. Tass reports that the Russian Defense Ministry is investigating the incident.

After the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Russian border regions have recently come under increasing fire. According to the governor, such shelling has killed 30 civilians from the Belgorod region since the beginning of the war.
