Heat and drought: The land of milk and honey is dying of thirst – economy

Ah, Italy. The promised land of Lucullus roasts under the sinking sun. The summer of 2022 is dedicated to the mischievous Charon. The ferryman of the underworld, who brings the dead in his mythological boat across the River of the Dead to the kingdom of Hades, gave his name to the most horrid of the five African heat waves this year. Since May 10th, Charon and his companions have been tainting the livelihood of the farmers in the Mediterranean land of plenty. Even the fishermen in the Po river delta are affected by the high temperatures. In their nets they are now dragging death into the boat. More than a third of the clams, which actually find their ideal habitat in the lagoon, have died.
