A hearty farmer’s pot is reminiscent of sweet childhood days with grandma. And grandma already knew how practical it is to throw all the ingredients in a pot to get a tasty dish on the table as quickly as possible. A hearty farmer’s pot with all kinds of seasonal vegetables, minced meat and potatoes is a kind of “One Pot” recipe with vintage character, which social media dubbed “One Pot” a good century later – and thus makes it en vogue again.

Whether it’s en vogue or not – a farmer’s pot tastes good, fills you up, is quick to prepare and cooks itself. Another bonus: it’s ideal for using up leftovers. Everything that doesn’t run away quickly enough – or that can still be found in the fridge – goes into the cooking pot.

Form the base Potatoes, minced meat and plenty of vegetables. Carrots, peppers, zucchini or tomatoes are particularly tasty, and various types of cabbage, celeriac or pumpkin are also ideal for further processing in the farmer’s pot. If you want to do without meat, a minced alternative, brown lentils or smoked tofu, are ideal as a nutritious insert. It doesn’t need any more ingredients. Bon appetit.

Recipe for a hearty one-pot farmer’s pot

Ingredients for four servings

  1. Peel and dice the potatoes.
  2. Wash, deseed and finely chop the peppers. Wash and slice the carrots. Peel onion and garlic and chop finely. Wash the parsley, shake dry and chop finely.
  3. Heat some rapeseed oil in a large saucepan. Fry the minced meat in the oil until crumbly.
  4. Add the garlic, onions and tomato paste and sauté for about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the potatoes, fry briefly. Then add the remaining vegetables and sauté as well.
  6. Deglaze with red wine.
  7. Add beef broth, chopped tomatoes and spices.
  8. Stir well and simmer, covered, for about 25 minutes until the potatoes are done.
  9. Serve with the chopped parsley and some sour cream.
