Health Minister François Braun wants scientific advice “very quickly” on unvaccinated caregivers

The Minister of Health, François Braun, announced on Wednesday the imminent referral to the High Authority for Health (HAS) and the National Ethics Council (CCNE) on the “thorny subject” of caregivers not vaccinated against Covid-19.

“I am committed to seizing the health authorities in the coming days on this particular issue”, he indicated to the Senate during a hearing on the “health watch and safety” bill, specifying then that the request would be sent to the HAS and the CCNE “this weekend”.

“Tricky topic”

The situation of the suspended caregivers, battle horse of the oppositions – in particular of the RN and LFI – since the entry into force of the vaccination obligation in the fall of 2021, has again been invited into the debates in the National Assembly. , where Braun said last week that a reinstatement was still “not on the cards”.

On “this thorny subject”, the minister repeated before the senators of the law commission that the sanction affected “about 12,000” people, who “are not only caregivers”, or “about 0.4% of the population”. ‘all health professionals’. An estimate supplemented by a figure attributed to the French Hospital Federation (FHF): “out of 263,000 hospital public service nurses, less than 500 are affected by this suspension”.

Assuring that he wanted to “follow the advice of scientists”, Braun added that he would ask HAS and CCNE to respond to the referral “as quickly as possible”. He then intends to bring together “very quickly” the unions of caregivers “to present these opinions to them and discuss the follow-up”, wishing “to have a transparent discussion with them, (so) that everyone takes their responsibilities, not on ideas but precise scientific arguments.
