This Wednesday, August 16, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron reacted to the disappearance of journalist Gérard Leclerc, which occurred following a plane crash in Lavau-sur-Loire, in Loire-Atlantique.

In a press release published by the Elysée Palace, the Head of State considered that the journalist “brought information and debate to life for nearly fifty years” considering that his premature death “mourns the world of journalism” .

“Behind Gérard Leclerc is emerging half a century of radio and television history, whose golden age he accompanied,” wrote the presidential palace, adding that as a rugby enthusiast and member of the 15th parliamentarian, the journalist “played fair play in oratorical contests as on the ground, and combined his talents as a journalist with the qualities of heart, tolerance and listening which won him the esteem of his opponents”.

As a reminder, Gérard Leclerc was the victim of a plane crash, a Robin DR, which he was piloting on Tuesday August 15. He was on board with two other passengers. The Saint-Nazaire prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday that two other bodies have been found.

“The body of a man on which were discovered personal effects in the name of Gérard Leclerc” and that of a woman, according to the same source. These “each present a very significant polytrauma, multiple fractures and injuries incompatible with any chance of survival”, added the prosecution explaining that “a body fragment corresponding to a third person of indeterminate sex”, was also traced back.
