He beats (or not) the record for the longest zucchini in France

An unusual French record could have been broken in Alsace. Not that of the greatest sauerkraut or the most important tarte flambée… No, far from the cliché this time and without knowing it, a resident of Oberhausberger, just near Strasbourg, may have grown the longest zucchini in France ! Or 1.70 meters and therefore 5 cm more than the previous cucurbit recorded in the Alpes-Maritimes in 2021. Unless another has already grown in Saône-et-Loire, still in 2021, up to 1 .84 meters! Sources vary but within a few centimeters, the feat remains.

“This is the first time I put it in the garden,” laughs Jagdev Singh, the gardener of this little miracle. “I put the lines up at an angle on a fence like you have on construction sites and this is what it came out with. I still have one that I haven’t picked up. Maybe it will be even bigger if this continues! »

The winner has already been consumed. It was served in a raita, a dish of Indian origin, grated with cucumbers. “It was very good,” assures the new record holder, head chef of the La Cantinella restaurant in Strasbourg. Jagdev Singh has already planned to save seeds to re-sow zucchini next year. And perhaps go even further… The world record has belonged to Canadian John (Giovanni) Scozzafava from Niagara Falls, Ontario, since 2014. His zucchini then measured 2.52 meters!
