HBK: New radiation device helps with tennis elbow, heel spurs or osteoarthritis

Whether tennis elbow, heel spurs or osteoarthritis – even more patients with such joint diseases can now be treated at the Heinrich Braun Clinic. As the hospital announced, a so-called X-ray stimulation device was purchased for this purpose. If other therapies such as physiotherapy, ultrasound or medication no longer help, low-dose, local radiation with the device can help with healing or provide relief. This also improves the quality of life of those affected.

The HBK can currently treat around 500 patients with such diseases every year. The therapy has so far been carried out with linear accelerators, which are also used in the fight against cancer. In view of the increasing number of referrals, investments were made in the new device, which can only be used to treat benign joint diseases, explained the chief physician for radiation therapy and radiation oncology, Alexander Boicev.
