The world of British series is mourning the loss of one of its most famous faces: Haydn Gwynne is dead. The actress, known from series such as “The Crown” and “The Windsors”, lost her battle with cancer.

The English actress Haydn Gwynne is dead. As her agent announced in a statement on Friday, Gwynne died of cancer at the age of 66. According to the BBC, the actress is died in the early hours of October 20th surrounded by her beloved sons, family and friends. They would like to thank the staff at the Royal Marsden Clinic and Brompton Hospital “for their wonderful care over the last few weeks”. It is also said that the diagnosis was only made recently.

Also her colleague Helen Mirren already spoke out about Gwynne’s death via Instagram: “Haydn was a wonderful person and an accomplished, committed actress.” She was funny and serious at the same time, which was a brilliant balancing act. This would be an example for her entire career. “We will miss her,” the Oscar winner concludes her eulogy.

Gwynne appeared on stage with Mirren in the famous play “The Audience”. However, Gwynne became known primarily because of her numerous series engagements. For example, she played Queen Camilla in the biting royal satire “The Windsors” or in the Netflix series “The Crown”, in which she played a lady-in-waiting. She celebrated her breakthrough thanks to her leading role in the Channel 4 cult sitcom “Drop the Dead Monkey” from 1990.
