Hasenbergl: Money collector arrested red-handed – Munich

The police have prevented a scam using the shock call method – by arresting one of the fraudsters in the act.

According to the police, a 70-year-old woman from Hasenbergl received a call on Wednesday morning, allegedly from a bank employee: Unauthorized money had been debited from her account. A second caller, who pretended to be a police officer, persuaded the woman to go to her bank and withdraw almost 10,000 euros.

As instructed, the woman left the money in an envelope at her front door. A little later a man appeared there to take the envelope. However, he was arrested at the scene by plainclothes police officers.

The police had been on the trail of the 20-year-old for a long time. He was brought before the magistrate and is now in custody. The responsible Commissariat 61 is trying to identify those behind it.
