Harvey Weinstein cannot avoid the trial in Los Angeles. A court dismissed the motions to dismiss the claims.

Convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein, 69, suffered a first defeat in Los Angeles court. At a hearing, the court rejected the requests made by its lawyers, as reported by “Deadline”, among other things. The former US film producer was there himself. He and his team had requested that all allegations against Weinstein be dropped. However, the judge Lisa Lench did not follow this.

According to Lench, there are enough witnesses and evidence to justify a trial. This is now expected to take place in summer 2022. However, there has not yet been an exact date for the court. A total of five women accuse Weinstein of having either raped or sexually abused her several times over a period of nine years. He faces a total of 140 years in prison.

Harvey Weinstein will probably never be released again

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York in March 2020 for two sexual offenses, which he is currently serving. Since the summer of 2021 he has been in a prison in Los Angeles, waiting for the new trial. In April 2021, Weinstein appealed the New York ruling. US trial observers believe this is hopeless and speculate that the former film mogul will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
