Author JK Rowling recently caused a stir with questionable statements. But interest in their stories remains unbroken.

Successful author JK Rowling (58) has recently verbally insulted many people with her supposedly transphobic statements – but her stories, especially those about Harry Potter’s magic student, are still very popular. As the US industry site “Variety” now reports that a film adaptation of one of her children’s books is now planned, but it does not take place in and around Hogwarts.

Accordingly, an adaptation of her bestseller “The Christmas Pig,” which was published in 2021, is in an early stage and a production company has not yet been found. “The Christmas Pig” tells the story of a boy named Jack who loses his favorite childhood toy – a pig named Dur Pig – at Christmas. Although Jack is given a replacement named Christmas Pig as consolation, he cannot forget his old friend. In order to cheer up the sad child, Christmas Pig finally comes up with a plan to go on a rescue mission with Jack – during which they even run into Santa Claus himself.

Asked despite the scandal

It was only announced in February of this year that a reboot of the “Harry Potter” story would probably be released in 2026 – this time in series form on the streaming service Max. Not much is known about the project yet, but it is planned according to Variety However, seven seasons, one for each book in JK Rowling’s series.

For several years now, the author has been drawing attention less for her work, which is loved by millions of people, than for statements that many see as transphobic. Among other things, she criticized trans people’s open approach to their identity and gender roles.

Most recently, she ranted again due to a change in the law in her adopted home of Scotland, which is supposed to combat hate speech in this regard. And she didn’t say a good word about two of the main actors in the “Harry Potter” films, Daniel Radcliffe (34) and Emma Watson (34) – both had sharply criticized their statements and sided with the LGBTQ+ community.
