Although Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have turned their backs on the British royal family, Harry still enjoys one royal tradition: playing polo. Last Friday, the prince played in a charity tournament in Miami. The proceeds went to Sentebale, an organization Harry founded that supports people infected with HIV in Africa. The 39-year-old was accompanied by his wife, Duchess Meghan, who handed him the trophy after the tournament and rewarded him with a kiss. Meghan’s good friend and tennis legend Serena Williams was also there. The two women have been close friends for several years, Williams was even a guest at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in Windsor in 2018. In 2022 she was a guest on Meghan’s podcast “Archetypes”, which was discontinued after one season. At the time, the two women also spoke about the unequal treatment of men and women when it comes to ambition and aspirations. “I don’t remember ever personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambition until I started dating my now husband. And apparently ambition is a terrible, terrible thing for a woman – some say,” Duchess said Meghan.
However, the ex-royals’ appearance at the polo tournament was not exclusively for charitable purposes. At least the two were accompanied by a camera team. Harry and Meghan are currently producing a Netflix series that will shed light on “the social scene of the polo industry”.
