More safety is required for children online
As parents of two young children, Meghan and Harry are concerned about social media and the impact of the internet on future generations.

“The best education in the world cannot protect children from these platforms,” Harry and Meghan explained in an emotional statement.
Harry and Meghan are committed to the issue with their foundation
On Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee addressed the issue in a bipartisan hearing. There were also a number of parents whose children suffered damage or even died as a result of the Internet. “The Archewell Foundation has worked with many of these families to provide a support network for parents who are struggling with grief or whose children are suffering from serious mental health issues due to exposure to harmful online content,” Harry’s website said and Meghan’s foundation. There, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared an emotional statement: “We applaud the courage and determination of thousands of parents across the country whose advocacy has led to this hearing.”
The Archewell Foundation works with families to provide a support network for parents struggling with grief or whose children are experiencing serious mental health issues due to harmful online content. “Over the last few years, we have spent time with many of these families, listening to their grief and their hopes for much-needed change in the online space,” Harry and Megan’s statement continued. “This is an issue that transcends divisions and party lines, as we saw in the Senate hearing today.” It goes on to say: “The best education in the world cannot protect children from these platforms.”
The couple insists on fundamental changes
Meghan and Prince Harry have worked with victims’ families for years, using their feedback to offer suggestions to politicians on how to bring about positive change. Her statement ended with a quote from a father: “If love could have saved them, all of our children would still be here.” It is time to “make the necessary changes at the root to ensure the safety of our children.”

Meghan and Harry spoke about the challenges of parenting related to social media at a World Mental Health Day event in New York in October 2023. The mother-of-two said it was “impossible not to burst into tears” when hearing the stories of the affected parents. “Social media is not going away,” she continued.
Prince Harry added: “I think for us, for me and my wife, with children growing up in the digital age, the priority is to turn the pain back into meaning and give those parents as much support as a spotlight and to provide a platform for them to come together to heal, grieve and also focus together on solutions so that no other family anywhere has to go through what they went through.”
