Hansi Flick: These could be his successors

The national team is in a serious crisis, the future of national coach Hansi Flick is being discussed. The latest slide started in Qatar during the World Cup opener against Japan. In the first half, the team played impressive offensive football at times and went into the half-time break with a well-deserved 1-0 lead. A ball possession of 81 percent and 14:2 shots on goal expressed the superiority in numbers. But then Flick first replaced the outstanding Ilkay Gündogan, and later he took Jamal Musiala off the pitch. That was the end of the German dominance, as is well known, the game was lost 1:2. The result had a decisive part in the German preliminary round.

Hansi Flick’s record is catastrophic

It was the first time that doubts arose about Hansi Flick as national coach. He coached the game smoothly and everyone could see it. The doubts have grown since then. After the again very weak performances in the last three friendlies against Ukraine (3: 3), Poland (0: 1) and Colombia (0: 2), it is difficult to imagine a national coach Hansi Flick at the European Championship 2024 in his own country . His record is too bad, his mistakes too catastrophic.

Flick is still benefiting from his nimbus as a six-title coach at Bayern and as a world champion coach assistant from 2014. He will probably still get a chance. But if the international matches against Japan (!) and France in September don’t bring the desired results and there’s no sign of the team developing, the DFB must act. And he will act. We have therefore taken a look at possible successors – without claiming to be complete, of course.
