Hansi Flick has to quit as national coach.

Hansi Flick no longer works as national coach of the German national team. The DFB released him.

Wolfsburg. It had already been announced, now the decision has been made: The German Football Association is separating from the national coach Hansi Flick. The DFB announced this on Sunday. Rudi Völler, actually sports director for the national team, is taking over for one game; Germany is playing against France on Tuesday. Völler is supported by Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner.

“The committees agreed that the senior men’s national team needed a new impetus after the recent disappointing results. With a view to the European Championships in our own country, we need a spirit of optimism and confidence,” says Bernd Neuendorf. “For me personally, it is one of the most difficult decisions in my term of office so far. Because I value Hansi Flick and his assistant coaches as football experts and people. However, sporting success has top priority for the DFB. That’s why the decision was unavoidable.”


After the shockingly weak performance against Japan, Germany lost 4-1 on Saturday evening, the patience of those responsible was exhausted. That’s why the DFB Vice President sat down on Sunday Hans Joachim WatzkePresident Bernd Neuendorf and Rudi Völlersports director of the national team, and came to the conclusion that Hansi Flick has to go.







Hansi Flick: The first national coach to be fired

Hansi Flick only took up his position in August 2021; at the World Cup in Qatar in winter 2022, he and the national team were eliminated in the preliminary round. Flick was allowed to stay, but the performance of Germany’s supposedly most important team became weaker and weaker. The 1:4 against Japan was the lowest point.

Now he has to DFB quickly find a successor, in less than a year the home European Championship will take place, it should trigger euphoria.
