At the European Handball Championships, the music played in the dressing room is apparently also important. Timo Kastening is responsible for this. Before the first match he explained how it works.

At the At the European Handball Championship, the German team relies on booth DJ Timo Kastening to choose the right music mix. “I haven’t been recalled yet,” said the right winger. And revealed: “Before the game it’s usually a mix of classics and rock, but also a lot of house music and after the game we currently have a 90-minute medley of the 80s, 90s and New German Wave

Kastening had not yet decided on Tuesday evening which songs the national player would play before the European Championship opener against Switzerland this Wednesday (8.45 p.m./ZDF and Dyn). “It’s not the case that the team plays better if I play a certain song. Sometimes it has to develop and then you find a song. But we’re not that far yet,” said the Bundesliga professional from the MT Melsungen.

Music at the European Handball Championships: “It suits my taste”

Kastening first took on the part-time job as a cabin DJ in 2019. After tearing his cruciate ligament in April 2022, he had to take an involuntary break and was represented by Simon Ernst at the World Cup last year. Since his comeback, he has once again determined the rhythm in the dressing room of the DHB selection.

His teammates are currently happy with his selection. “It’s going well and there’s no criticism,” said captain Johannes Golla. Kastening put together a playlist, “but you can also express your wishes,” reported the circle runner from SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Jannik Kohlbacher also gave Kastening a good music reference: “It suits my taste.
