Handball European Championship: Portrait of the German national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff

Since winning the European Championship in 2016, Andreas Wolff has been considered one of the world’s best goalkeepers in handball. In the first group game he once again made the opponents despair with his saves. The Wolff of today is completely different than he was back then – which also has to do with Corona.

In the middle of the conversation, Andreas Wolff stretches his neck muscles. Place your head first on your left shoulder, then on your right shoulder. Always stay mobile! “You’re not getting any younger,” laughs the handball goalkeeper. Mobility is his capital, the basis for his reflexes, which were once again astonishing in the first game against Switzerland. However, Wolff had to worry about this flexibility when doctors discovered a herniated disc in his cervical spine in August 2023. At that time he could neither sit nor lie down and some doctors even saw the future of his career in danger. Wolff says: “I never thought of that.”
