Magdeburg wins in Flensburg and marches towards the title
With the 32:29 win over SG Flensburg-Handewitt, Magdeburg’s handball players overcome a high hurdle on the way to the German championship. A Flensburg man sees the red card.
The best throwers in front of 6,300 spectators in the sold-out campus hall were Emil Jakobsen and Lasse Möller with seven goals each for Flensburg and Omar Ingi Magnusson with nine goals for Magdeburg.
The two teams fought a fast-paced and high-class duel from the start. Magdeburg repeatedly scored up to two goals, but the SG always equalized at first. In the 29th minute, Janus Dadi Smarason gave the guests the lead for the first time with four goals at 18:14.
First SCM victory in Flensburg since February 2015
After the break, SG coach Nicolej Krickau took an early timeout at 17:22 (38th). Flensburg got within 28:30 (56′), but it wasn’t enough. After a foul on Albin Lagegren, Gottfridsson saw the red card (57th). For the SG it was the first home defeat of the current season, for the SCM it was the first away win in Flensburg since February 18, 2015.
In the league’s cellar duel, Bergische HC finished second to last and achieved an acclaimed 25:21 (11:12) win over bottom team HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. Three days after parting ways with coach Jamal Naji, the BHC kept its chance of staying in the league. For Balingen, however, relegation seems inevitable.
