One day before Christmas Eve Bundesliga with the last four games in the Christmas and European Championship break (January 10th to 28th). The focus was particularly on the teams in the relegation battle – and national goalkeeper Joel Birlehm (26).

What a crime thriller!
The Rhein-Neckar Lions suffered a bitter 32:31 defeat in the Baden-Württemberg derby in Stuttgart. It is already the fourth winless game in a row for the cup winners – despite a spectacular triple save from national goalkeeper Joel Birlehm (26).
Shortly before the break, Stuttgart made its last attack with the score at 13:18. Adam Lönn tries to throw from distance, but Birlehm extends his left hand and blocks the ball.
The rebound ends up back at the Stuttgart attacker, but the Lions keeper is there again and is able to hold the ball with his foot before preventing the goal a third time. A crazy triple save within a few seconds.
The national goalkeeper (contract until 2025) wants to move to Hannover-Burgdorf next summer. Now the reigning cup winners Rhein-Neckar Löwen are playing poker with Lower Saxony over the amount of the transfer fee. In the end, this will probably be between 100,000 and 150,000 euros. According to BILD information, his mandatory medical check has already taken place at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf.
The Lions go into the break with an 18:13 lead. But in the end it’s not enough to win against a basement child. It was only on Wednesday that Mannheim lost against promoted team Eisenach (26:27). Now the next setback before the winter break.

HE holds on to victory!
HSG Wetzlar wins 28:23 at Bergischer HC and celebrates their third win in a row after victories against Melsungen and Leipzig.
Man of the match and guarantee of victory: Till Klimpke (25)!
The goalkeeper keeps driving the hosts to despair. After just under 20 minutes, Klimpke already has seven saves to his name, and at the end of the game there are 17 (!) balls saved and a rate of almost 45 percent – outstanding.
And a strong goalkeeper was also necessary for the win. The HSG had difficulty getting into the game and only scored their first goal after 5:47 minutes. After almost 21 minutes, the HSG took the lead for the first time before going into the dressing room with a narrow 12:10 lead.
The second half throw-off is delayed a little. Reason: The goal net needs to be repaired and attached to the goal post by an employee using tape.
In the second half it initially looks like things are clear, HSG pulls away to 16:11. But the Bergischer HC showed morale and, thanks to a double majority, fought its way back to 18:18.
In the end it was in vain because HSG made the better final spurt and won 28:23.
With the win, Wetzlar jumps to a single-digit place in the table (9th place). The Bergischer HC, on the other hand, is hibernating in the bottom of the table and is level on points with Eisenach (17th place) after their third defeat in a row (previously lost against Göppingen and Hannover-Burgdorf).
ThSV Eisenach – HC Erlangen 28:26
Next exclamation mark in the relegation battle!
After the surprising 27:26 success against cup winners Rhein-Neckar Löwen, ThSV Eisenach celebrates their next victory – 28:26 against HC Erlangen.
In front of 3,150 spectators, Manuel Zehnder (24) became the match winner with eleven goals, two of which were from seven meters. In the last three minutes, Eisenach was able to pull ahead with three goals in a row and win the game.
With the second win in a row, we are 17th in the table. to the rescue bank and is now tied on points with Bergischer HC and Stuttgart.
TBV Lemgo Lippe – HSV Hamburg
In the last game of the evening, the handball players from HSV Hamburg scored a point against TBV Lemgo Lippe with a score of 34:34. It is the sixth winless game in a row for Hamburg. And that on the birthday of coach Torsten Jansen (47).
