Five-year-old dies the day after a swimming accident during a swimming course

A five-year-old girl has died after a swimming accident in a Hamburg swimming pool. She was found lifeless in the water during a swimming lesson. First responders initially resuscitated the girl, but she later died in hospital.
Things are terrible in the Bondenwald pool in the Niendorf district of Hamburg Misfortune has come: A five-year-old girl died last Wednesday after a bathing incident. The child had been taking part in a swimming course for five to seven year olds when the accident occurred.
According to a report by NDR, the girl was found lifeless in the swimming pool when the children were supposed to go to shower. The pool staff pulled her out of the water and immediately began resuscitation measures. The five-year-old was then taken to the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, where she was treated in the intensive care unit. One day later, life support measures were discontinued.
It is still unclear how long the girl was under water. The accident is said to have occurred in the teaching pool of the Bondenwald swimming pool, which measures 1.30 meters at its deepest point.

The girl was part of a swimming course for beginners with around ten participants. According to a spokesman for the pool operator, the children have already completed about half of the 25 lessons, so they have already gotten used to water. The swimming instructor for the course has been working in the position for several years and is very experienced, according to the pool operator.
A police spokesman told Bild: “It is being examined whether there were any oversights on the part of the supervisor.” The exact processes and cause of the girl’s death are also being investigated.
