After a ship accident in the port of Hamburg, rescue workers searched the Elbe for a missing person. Now he has been found. It remains unclear how the accident occurred.

After a ship collision in A dead person has been found in the port of Hamburg. A ship’s master was initially considered missing after the accident on Wednesday evening, as the Hamburg police announced on Thursday. On the same day, emergency services found a male body while recovering a sunken mooring boat. A police spokesman in Hamburg confirmed that the dead man was the 33-year-old ship’s master. The police and the public prosecutor’s office initially had no information about the actual cause of death and thus a result from the Institute of Forensic Medicine. The spokesman said the investigation into the ship accident was continuing.

On Wednesday evening, a so-called mooring boat collided with a push convoy on the Köhlbrand waterway near the Neuhof pier and sank. The crew member was searched for hours in vain. The boat was pulled out of the water on Thursday morning.

Missing man searched for two days in the port of Hamburg

The mooring boat sank within a very short time on Wednesday evening after a collision with a push convoy in the so-called Köhlbrand. A large number of emergency services searched the Elbe arm, where there are numerous quays and freight handling terminals, over a length of 2.5 kilometers. The boat was finally located at a depth of several meters.

The search for the missing skipper of the mooring boat was initially unsuccessful despite the use of divers. According to the fire brigade, the emergency services temporarily stopped the search late on Wednesday evening after four hours, as they already assumed that the man was dead. On Thursday morning the mooring boat was recovered by a specialist company. When the ship was searched, the dead man was found.

How the accident happened was initially unclear. The police are now looking for witnesses who can provide information about the accident.
