Hamas-Israel War: Thirteen arrests in Strasbourg during a rally in support of Palestine

A rally in support of the Palestinian people, banned by the Bas-Rhin prefecture, was still held on Friday in Strasbourg. The prefecture considered that such a demonstration could be “perceived by part of the population, in particular the Jewish community, as a provocation or support for (terrorist actions).

Assessment of the gathering, “thirteen people arrested”, announced on X (formerly Twitter), the Bas-Rhin prefecture. Thirteen people “including the organizer of the demonstration who will be brought before the courts”, added the prefecture.

Nearly 300 people

Late Friday afternoon, nearly 300 people gathered in the city center, waving Palestinian flags and signs, not far from Place Kléber which had been made inaccessible by the police. “Palestine will live, Palestine will win”, “We are all Palestinians”, chanted the demonstrators in particular. A gathering which was finally dispersed by the police, who used tear gas. According to a union source, a police officer was injured.

As a reminder, on Thursday, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin ordered the ban on “pro-Palestinian demonstrations, because they are likely to generate disturbances to public order”, adding that “the organization of these prohibited demonstrations (should) give rise to arrests.”
