Hallbergmoos: With the e-bike to the office – Freising

Employees of more than 60 companies in the Munich Airport Business Park can rent e-bikes at low rates, for example for the trip to the S-Bahn station. The municipality of Hallbergmoos sees itself as a “initiator”.

The cooperation with the e-bike provider Movelo has existed for three years now. Employees of more than 60 companies in the Munich Airport Business Park can rent one of the ten e-bikes that are available at low rates – for example for the three kilometers to and from the S-Bahn station. But he can’t take stock yet, says Hallbergmoos business developer Alexander Mademann. The reason is, of course, Corona. There was still no real test phase.

The project was presented at the end of August 2019. Operation started at the beginning of September, initially free of charge for two months. After the winter months, when things were supposed to really get going, the pandemic hit and many employees worked from home for a long time. The business developer is therefore promoting the initiative once again. The community sees itself as a driving force, he says. Two hotels have followed suit and are also offering their guests e-bikes through the same service provider. Mademann hopes that other companies will follow. Mainly for reasons of space, the municipality does not want to expand its portfolio further for the time being.

Use will be “above all a question of habit”.

The two stations for the e-bikes are located at the S-Bahn station and at Lilienthalstrasse 10. So far, the bikes can only be used by employees of companies registered with Movelo in the business park. However, Mademann says that it is being considered to expand the offer to Hallbergmoos citizens as well.

The e-bikes can be booked using a smartphone app, and the door of the station can then be opened with a code. The tariffs are low to make switching to a bike attractive: one hour costs one euro, two hours 1.50 euros and users pay 2.50 euros for 20 hours. “People are finally coming back to the office,” says the business developer. With the e-bike service, they can easily bridge the distance from the train station to the company and do not have to wait for the bus. He believes that using the alternative offer will be “above all a question of habit”.
