A person who stole 20 million Optimism (OP) tokens from market maker Wintermute returned 17 million tokens to the Optimism contract address.
Over the past few hours, the address opened a line of communication with Wintermute on-chain and 17mm of 20mm OP has now been returned. There was also 1mm sent to @VitalikButerin yesterday () which is being recovered.

Etherscan data shows 17 million OP tokens were transferred bystarting fromIt was 12:09 a.m. UTC, with the last transaction taking place at 12:31 a.m. UTC on Friday.

Those who discovered the vulnerability opted to be a white hat hacker, which is a role model for the entire crypto community, and Wintermute can now fully focus on providing liquidity to OP tokens,” said a Wintermute spokesperson.
However, the attacker still has 1 million OP tokens left in the wallet at the time of writing, the attacker previously sent 1 million to Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin and immediately sold another 1 million. after the hack
