Habeck and Geywitz: Recording energy data of every building by law – politics

Federal Economics Minister Habeck and Federal Building Minister Geywitz want to introduce a law that will oblige states and local authorities to collect a large amount of data on the energy consumption of each individual building.

According to a media report, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) want to oblige the federal states and municipalities to submit binding plans for climate-neutral heating networks. As the Picture-Zeitung citing a relevant bill reportedHabeck and Geywitz ask the municipalities, among other things, to determine numerous data on the energy consumption and the condition of each individual building.

The data should then be used to create heating plans in order to ensure a climate-neutral heat supply in Germany by 2045 at the latest. The cabinet should pass the law before the summer break. Large cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants should draw up corresponding “heating plans” by the end of 2026 at the latest. Smaller cities and districts (up to 100,000 inhabitants) have until the end of 2028.
