Gwendolyn Sasse’s book “The War Against Ukraine” – Culture

There will be no war guilt debate on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The role of Putin, the autocrat who prepared this war long beforehand, is too clear. However, the dominance of one actor does not absolve historians from asking about long-term causes. “The term ‘Putin’s war’ falls short, even if Putin triggered this war,” writes Gwendolyn Sasse in the first scientific account of the war. “Nor is there a single cause of war. Rather, it was a web of interrelated developments that created the necessary, but not sufficient, conditions for war.”
