Günter Guillaume: How the son of the GDR spy experienced his arrest

50 years ago, Willy Brandt’s personal advisor Günter Guillaume was exposed as a GDR spy and arrested. starReporter Bruno Manz spoke to the agent’s son at the time.

When his father was arrested shortly after seven in the morning in the apartment at Ubierstraße 107 in Bad Godesberg, 17-year-old Pierre Guillaume was still asleep. He was on vacation. And on days like that he doesn’t emerge from his room until eleven.

“Then I heard voices in the hallway. I opened the door a crack, saw my father in his pajamas with two men, heard something about coming with me and thought: Well, just wait and stay in your room.”
