Anyone who enters Guido Heuber’s apartment in one of these cute little houses in the Ramersdorfer model settlement must be careful not to step on the chicken toes of Marilyn, Crooked or Berta. The host introduces: “Marilyn is the blonde, Crooked is the one with the crooked beak, and that’s Berta.” The representatives of the Wyandotten breed don’t see it at all, scratching around outside in the freezing cold, when it’s so nice and warm inside at the egg collector. He’s just mad at the animals: “Now you’ve shit it in the kitchen again!” he scolds, wipes up the dirt with the cloth and pushes the trio barefoot out the door. Why does someone who is constantly on the move keep chickens at home? “Mei, they are child-friendly, unable to fly and hard-working”, explains the animal lover and is already on to the next topic: the old fruit trees in the garden. “Can’t you believe how much apple juice you can make with it. Would you like to try it? Or coffee? Wine?” Midday at twelve? Fridge open, scrutinizing look. “Hm, I’ll have a wine tasting soon…” It’s finally apple juice, and even before you sit down at the dining table – Marilyn or Berta not – the term “crazy chicken” has already taken root in the upper room.
