Pep Guardiola has made an emotional statement about Jürgen Klopp’s departure from the Premier League. “I will miss him very much,” said the Manchester City team manager, before struggling for words for a few seconds and appearing to fight back tears.

“Jürgen played a very important role in my life,” explained the visibly touched Guardiola after he and his team had just won their fourth championship title in a row: “He took me to another level as a coach.”

The eternal rivals have repeatedly had epic duels in recent years, which also appealed to Guardiola: “He was a great opponent in my life. There were many moments when I couldn’t find a way to beat him like I did against other teams.”
